Basket NBA: Anthony lascia New York, anche lui ad OKC
Carmelo Anthony infine abbandona i New York Knicks. Raggiunge George e Westrbook ai Thunder per McDermott, Kanter e scelte.
Carmelo Anthony lascia la grande mela per approdare agli Oklahoma City Thunder di Westbrook e del nuovo arrivato Paul George. Fondamentale è stato l’approdo dell’ex Indiana ai Thunder che ha gettato le basi per la formazione dell’attuale corazzata OKC. Anthony atteso martedì ad Oklahoma City per l’inizio del training camp. Qui troverà i suoi nuovi compagni e comincerà la sua terza avventura NBA.
Westbrook, George ed Anthony, i Thunder sono rinati.
L’Oklahoma non era inizialmente tra le destinazioni favorite dal giocatore. La terra promessa doveva infatti essere Houston, che però non è mai stata nelle condizioni di acquisire il giocatore. Ad Anthony è stato quindi chiesto dalla dirigenza Knicks di ampliare la rosa di “destinazioni gradite”. Ricordiamo che Carmelo Anthony ha una clausola contrattuale che gli permette di esprimere veto su un possibile trasferimento. Melo stava quindi trattando con i Rockets, CAVS, opzione scemata dopo la cessione di Irving, e Portland. Un destino più incerto che mai fino al forte inserimento di Sam Presti nelle trattative con i Knicks.
Accordo che ha portato a New York: Doug McDermott, Enes Kanter ed una futura scelta al secondo giro del draft 2018, scelta proveniente da Chicago.
New York e la questione Melo.
L’unica certezza in casa Knicks rimaneva che Anthony stava diventando un problema. Un vero e proprio intoppo verso la ricostruzione della franchigia attorno a Porzingis. Il peso sul salary cap e la neanche troppo pacata “sopportazione” con la dirigenza sono state variabili importanti. Tanti piccoli sassolini che hanno contribuito a non far mai funzionare l’ingranaggio di un progetto credibile a New York negli ultimi anni.
Un gruppo di giovani e la scommessa Hornaceck sono la scelta fatta dai Knicks. Ragazzi promettenti come Ntilikina, Porzingis, Hardaway, Kuzminskas ed Hermangomez sono i giocatori a cui i Knicks ha deciso di affidare il proprio futuro. Si conclude quindi con l’amaro in bocca la storia tra i New York Knicks e Carmelo Anthony. Tutto quello che “poteva essere” ma alla fine non è stato, i molti “ma”, gli altrettanti “peró”‘ ma veramente poche soddisfazioni.
I nuovi Big three di OKC.
L’entusiasmo ad Oklahoma City è ovviamente alle stelle. In pochi anni i tifosi avevano visto la loro squadra smontarsi lentamente. Prima l’addio di Harden, poi quello di Durant. Con il solo Westbrook a fare da araldo i Thunder erano ormai ben poca cosa rispetto al passato.
Adesso invece due nuove superstar sono arrivate in città. Paul George e Carmelo Anthony. Due All-Star di altissimo livello. E pensare che l’arrivo di Melo era tutto tranne che certo. Sono stati proprio Westbrook e Paul a convincere l’ex Knicks a rinunciare alle sua “no-trade clause”. Anthony ha quindi rinunciato ad una bella somma per abbracciare un progetto stimolante. Il suo contratto farà comunque andare OKC oltre la soglia del salary cap costringendo la società a pagare una onerosa luxury tax.
L’opportunità però era troppo grande. I quasi 30 milioni di luxury tax sono un prezzo che la squadra pagherà volentieri per tornare ai fasti di qualche anno fa. Westbrook spalleggiato da due grandissimi realizzatori. Dei nuovi “Big three” ad OKC per puntare nuovamente al titolo.
