BITCOIN: UN NUOVO CAPITALE
Due anni fa ero un fresco diciottenne appena abbonato ad Internazionale. Era la fine del 2015, le prime pagine esprimevano i timori attorno al Ttip, facevano luce sul terrore turco e ci presentavano il discusso candidato alle presidenziali americane, Donald Trump. Sfogliando con curiosità i primi numeri che ricevevo, mi ritrovo sulla meravigliosa “Isola di Branson”. Il magnate britannico aveva riunito un gruppo di investitori e imprenditori anarcocapitalisti della Silicon Valley per discutere sul futuro dell’economia globale: tema centrale Bitcoin. A quel punto interrompo la mia lettura e immediatamente ricorro ad Internet per sapere cosa sia quella che viene identificata come una criptovaluta sgradita a Stati e Banche, dalle cui potenzialità uomini come Larry Page, Michael Casey e, lo stesso Branson, erano attratti.
Ad un superficiale livello di indagine scopro che Bitcoin è una moneta elettronica coniata nel 2009 da un misterioso fondatore, presumibilmente giapponese, che si nasconde dietro lo pseudonimo Satoshi Nakamoto. La rete su cui si costruisce il sistema non fa capo ad un ente centrale, il valore della valuta è fissato dal rapporto domanda-offerta, le transizioni di bitcoin si definiscono come cambi di proprietà della criptovaluta e non necessitano di un supervisore tra le parti. Un bitcoin in quel momento equivaleva all’incirca a 300 euro. Sapevo abbastanza per terminare quella lettura testimone della stravaganza e del visionario intuito di quelle persone. Non sono un seguace di Elon Musk, che ha smentito pochi giorni fa la notizia secondo cui sarebbe l’inventore di Bitcoin, ma la mia giovane curiosità a riguardo non era stata appagata da quell’articolo, anzi era stata ingigantita. Torno su Internet, m’imbatto in un’altra pubblicazione di Internazionale, due anni più vecchia rispetto al momento in cui la leggevo, quindi datata 2013. Non apprendo nulla di nuovo sulla storia e sulla natura della moneta, scopro che in quel periodo un bitcoin stava più o meno a 140 euro, quindi nel corso del tempo il suo valore era raddoppiato, e che attorno alla criptovaluta si stava formando una bolla speculativa, perché le scorte di bitcoin sono fisse, la domanda aumentava e il prezzo saliva. Qualsiasi bolla scoppia e, senza nessuna previsione catastrofica, il giornalista immaginava l’evento lontano, quando il prezzo sarebbe cresciuto vertiginosamente e sarebbe stato più facile comprare bitcoin. Tra l’altro scriveva che ne aveva acquistati mille euro, pur sapendo che il mercato fosse una bolla, ma finché i tassi sarebbero continuati ad aumentare avrebbe guadagnato vendendo i suoi bitcoin al momento giusto.
Tutto questo mi incuriosiva ancora di più, nel giro di un’oretta avevo imparato abbastanza, Bitcoin era diventato qualcosa che avrei seguito con studio e, magari, un progetto su cui poter investire nei limiti di un neomaggiorenne. Passano mesi e il valore continuava a salire, ma non avevo messo mano ad alcun investimento e di conseguenza le mie possibilità iniziavano a ridursi. Nei primi mesi del 2016 il prezzo si attestava sui 400, per essere quasi duplicato a fine Dicembre, col nuovo anno che si presentava come quello del Bitcoin. Così è stato. Toccano subito i mille a Gennaio, per poi sfiorare i tremila a Giugno. Rimpiangevo di non aver cambiato nessuno dei miei risparmi in bitcoin, comprare la moneta sarebbe stato fuori dalla mia portata e ho optato per l’acquisto più semplice ed economico di qualche azione, il cui valore ha un corso diverso rispetto a quello della valuta, ma da inizio anno ad oggi è aumentato più del 1000%. Dopo le sorprendenti cifre estive, a metà Ottobre un bitcoin vale 5.000 dollari, a Novembre il valore è raddoppiato, oggi più che triplicato.
La bolla sta diventando enorme, il fenomeno Bitcoin cresce sempre di più ma su di esso circolano sempre le stesse informazioni. Sui social spopolano storie di giovani che hanno fiutato il colpo qualche anno fa e ora sono milionari per aver venduto i loro bitcoin: tutti i mezzi di informazione parlano, nel modo in cui gli è consono, della straordinaria storia di questa moneta elettronica. Alcuni stati stanno provvedendo ad emendamenti che regolino il flusso di criptovaluta, la Bce si è apertamente dichiarata diffidente, posizione condivisa con le altre istituzioni bancarie che, eccetto quella giapponese, non riconoscono al bitcoin lo status di moneta di scambio. Il mese scorso è stato premiato vincitore di un concorso indetto dalla Bce un cortometraggio su Bitcoin il cui monito recita: “senza la certezza di stabilità una criptovaluta non potrà sostituire una moneta esistente”. Quali saranno gli sviluppi di questa vicenda, come i poteri gestiranno i rapporti con la moneta elettronica è tutto da vedere. Per adesso sembra essere impiegata abbondantemente per pagamenti illeciti online e nella “realtà” è identificata come una grossa bolla speculativa da cui oggi chi ha comprato un bitcoin a Gennaio per mille euro ne ricaverebbe quattordicimila netti. Netanyahu ha dichiarato pochi giorni fa che Bitcoin farà sparire le banche perché blockchain, la tecnologia decentralizzata alla base del sistema, rende possibili e sicure transizioni dirette senza un intermediario, adempiendo perfettamente al ruolo di supervisore. Alcuni, invece, sostengono che la bolla potrebbe scoppiare anche domani. Credo che entrambe le cose siano possibili, ma, in ogni caso, l’idea di una moneta elettronica è tra gli obbiettivi verso cui tende l’economia globale, a prescindere dal destino della più costosa criptovaluta. Mentre Bitcoin continua ad essere avvolto nel mistero ed a raggiungere quotazioni da record, vorrei sapere cosa ne pensa quel miliardario di Branson, che nell’articolo dove ho incontrato per la prima volta la criptovaluta amava definirla il nuovo capitale.
